McGuireWoods partners Geoff Cockrell and Amber McGraw Walsh, together with Hunter Atkins of Allen Mooney & Barnes Brokerage Services, co-wrote an article identifying five operating models in the urgent healthcare industry: the pure-play model, the rural model, the hybrid model, the pediatric model and the onsite model. Of these five, the authors say, the standard pure-play model will continue to be the dominant model, especially in larger metro markets, while primary care practices increasingly will eye the hybrid model as an alternative to joining a hospital system.
