McGuireWoods Partner Alan Cason Named Chair of Y of Central Maryland Board of Directors

June 2, 2015

McGuireWoods partner Alan C. Cason has been selected as chair of the Y of Central Maryland’s Association Board of Directors, the charitable organization’s governing body. The Y of Central Maryland serves the city of Baltimore and five counties in the region.

During his two-year term as chairman, Cason will provide fiduciary oversight, ensure the Y fulfills its charitable mission, develop the organization’s strategy, approve all new programs and facility development and support the organization’s philanthropic efforts. He has served on the board for several years and has chaired its finance committee.

“We are honored to have Alan Cason lead the Y of Central Maryland's Board of Directors as the incoming chair,” said John Hoey, the president and CEO of the Y of Central Maryland, who noted that Cason takes the leadership post as the Y prepares to implement its new strategic plan, called Impact 2020.

“This plan doubles down on our commitment, as a major charitable organization, to have even more significant impact on the well-being of our community and the nearly 300,000 people we serve annually,” Hoey said. “There is no doubt that Alan Cason is the right leader at this important time, as we all work together to assure our vision of a healthier and more connected Central Maryland.”

Based in McGuireWoods’ Baltimore office, Cason chairs the firm’s public finance practice. The Best Lawyers in America recognized Cason as the Baltimore Banking and Finance Law “Lawyer of the Year” for 2015, an honor afforded to only one lawyer per city in each practice area.

“The Y of Central Maryland plays a vital role in community development at all levels and we hope to have an even greater impact as we turn our new strategic plan into action.” Cason said. “I’m proud of the important work the Y is doing in our region and I’m honored to serve as chair of the board of directors.”

In addition to the Y, Cason’s volunteer work includes serving on the boards of the University of Maryland Alumni Association International, the Towson University Athletics Advisory Board and the African American Real Estate Professionals. He received his bachelor’s and law degrees from the University of Maryland.
