McGuireWoods’ dominance as a top firm for syndicated debt financings continues, with the firm placing fourth in deal count and seventh in dollar volume in Thomson Reuters Loan Pricing Corp.’s year-end U.S. Lender Legal Advisor rankings. The firm recorded 182 deals valued at $123.6 billion in 2017.

For seven consecutive years, McGuireWoods has ranked among the top 10 U.S. law firms for both deal count and dollar volume in the league tables that debt finance professionals consider definitive, underscoring the depth and the strength of the firm’s nationally recognized debt finance practice. McGuireWoods has ranked among the top five firms for deal count six times during that period.

In addition to its league table rankings, the firm boosted its market-leading reputation for serving financial institutions in 2017 with the addition of accomplished debt finance partners Peter Szurley, Gregory Clore, Jeffrey Browning and Brian Coughlan in San Francisco; and Jennifer Kafcas and Lorraine Vaz in London.

“Loan volume and deal activity increased significantly in 2017 and McGuireWoods again stood out in a highly competitive market thanks to our lawyers’ excellent work on behalf of our clients,” said Raj Natarajan, chair of the firm’s debt finance practice. “Our strategic growth has enhanced our client service capabilities and we look forward to even greater results this year.”

McGuireWoods has nearly 90 debt finance and asset-based lending lawyers in the United States and London and it is recognized repeatedly as a leading firm for banking and financial services clients. The firm represents each of the top 10 U.S. banks ranked by assets and earned a top-tier nationwide ranking for Banking and Finance Law in the 2018 edition of U.S. News-Best Lawyers “Best Law Firms.” The Best Lawyers in America also listed 28 McGuireWoods lawyers in the area of Banking and Finance Law for 2018, the most of any firm in the United States.
