McGuireWoods finished 2020 ranked No. 9 nationally on the list of top underwriter’s counsel published by The Bond Buyer, the daily newspaper of public finance. The firm served as underwriter’s counsel on 46 transactions totaling nearly $9 billion. The rankings are based on data compiled by Refinitiv.
McGuireWoods lawyers represented leading financial institutions and other underwriters in transactions across the country.
In addition to its nationwide ranking for serving as underwriter’s counsel, McGuireWoods ranked No. 2 on The Bond Buyer’s list of top bond counsel in the Southeast and No. 1 in Virginia. The firm also earned a No. 3 bond counsel ranking in Maryland and a No. 5 ranking in North Carolina.

McGuireWoods earned a Tier 1 nationwide ranking for public finance law in the 2021 edition of U.S. News-Best Lawyers ’ “Best Law Firms.”
The firm’s public finance lawyers pioneered the use of financing strategies such as public-private partnerships; special revenue, tax and assessment pledges; lease financings; and tax and revenue anticipation vehicles to achieve clients’ objectives. The firm has served as bond counsel to more than 250 counties, cities, towns, service authorities, sanitary districts and other issuing entities.
