March 29, 2022

McGuireWoods Houston partner Demetra Liggins has been recognized as one of the “Premier Women in the Law” by the Houston Association of Women Attorneys, a nonprofit organization that promotes the interests of women in Houston’s legal community.

The award, which honors women who break new ground in the legal profession, will be presented to Liggins for her “entrepreneurial spirit” at the ninth annual Premier Women in Law Luncheon to be held March 31, 2022, at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Houston..

A prominent bankruptcy lawyer, Liggins has more than two decades of experience in business finance and restructuring for public and private companies. She is a frequent speaker on bankruptcy and finance-related topics, as well as on diversity and inclusion in the legal profession and the wider business community.

Liggins co-founded Corporate Homie, an organization dedicated to helping women and minorities advance in corporate America, and she hosts the Corporate Homie podcast. She has received the Rick Palmore LCLD Alumni Award from the Leadership Council on Legal Diversity and she was recognized as a Law Firm Rainmaker by Diversity & the Bar magazine, a Minority Corporate Counsel Association publication.

“As a longtime Houston resident, I am thrilled to be part of this prestigious group of women lawyers,” said Liggins. “I have been fortunate to establish valuable relationships in the Houston community and look forward to building more in the years ahead.”

“Demetra is certainly deserving of this wonderful honor,” said Yasser Madriz, managing partner of McGuireWoods’ Houston office. “She is a leader in every sense of the word and will continue to make a positive impact on the Houston legal, business and civic communities.”

In 2019, McGuireWoods partner Phyllis Young also received a Premier Women in Law award.
