Sarah Thompson Discusses Flexible Working Arrangements in Personnel Today

August 21, 2017

In a July 18 article for the UK human resources website Personnel Today, McGuireWoods London associate Sarah Thompson examined the need for employers to adopt “well-designed flexible and agile working arrangements” that create a better work-life balance and can result in higher employee engagement and retention.

Research shows that many workers prefer flexible working arrangements over a pay raise, Thompson noted in the article. But the technology that enables flexible practices also can mean that workers “never switch off from their working lives,” she wrote. Her article outlines strategies for encouraging flexible working arrangements without creating an “always-on” culture.

“The way in which employers can start to accomplish this is through transparent policies, staff training and awareness and leadership change,” Thompson wrote.
