Investment News Quotes Emily Gordy on FINRA’s 2019 Priorities

February 1, 2019

McGuireWoods Washington, D.C., partner Emily Gordy provided insight for Investment NewsJan. 22 story on the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority’s examination priorities for 2019.

FINRA’s annual Risk Monitoring and Examination Priorities Letter outlines investor protection issues that regulators will target in the year ahead. For 2019, those issues include online sales of unregulated securities, markup and markdown disclosures for fixed income products, and regulatory technology, according to the story.

Gordy, former senior vice president of FINRA’s enforcement department, told Investment News that this year’s shortened priority list illustrates that FINRA is taking a more holistic and unified approach to their reviews, thereby providing members with clarity about FINRA’s most pressing concerns.

“It tells firms where they need to look to assess their own regulatory procedures and controls,” she said.
