Courtney C. Shytle has joined McGuireWoods as a partner in the firm’s national products, environmental and mass torts litigation practice, bringing more than two decades of experience representing leading automakers and consumer goods manufacturers in high-profile cases.
As trial counsel to some of America’s largest carmakers, she managed multistate and class action litigation involving multiple matters and law firms. She coordinated a top global automaker’s response to litigation over vehicles equipped with defective Takata airbags, the largest recall in U.S. automotive history. In addition to her work with automotive clients, Shytle has represented product manufacturers in premises liability, toxic torts and personal injury cases.
She comes to McGuireWoods from Bowman and Brooke, where she served as co-managing partner of the firm’s Columbia, South Carolina, office.
“Courtney is a tremendous trial lawyer whose skill managing complex, multimatter litigation makes her a perfect addition to our practice,” said Diane Flannery, chair of McGuireWoods’ Products, Environmental & Mass Tort Litigation Department.
Shytle joins a McGuireWoods practice recognized by independent organizations as a leader in defending the world’s largest automakers in high-stakes litigation. Law360 has named McGuireWoods an “Automotive Practice Group of the Year” for its litigation prowess in the sector.
“Courtney strengthens our capabilities in automotive product liability litigation, and all our manufacturer clients will benefit from her significant experience in consumer class action matters,” said J. Tracy Walker IV, McGuireWoods’ managing partner, who has served as national trial, class action and appellate counsel for some of the world’s largest automakers.
“McGuireWoods has earned its reputation as a leader in handling serious litigation threats facing corporate clients,” Shytle said. “I look forward to putting my experience to work to help navigate our clients past these challenges and achieve their business goals.”
McGuireWoods earned a nationwide ranking for Products Liability & Mass Torts in Chambers USA, and a “standout” rating for product liability matters in BTI Litigation Outlook.
